Position Summary

 

The Criminal Justice department at Bellevue College is accepting applications for an Assistant Adjunct Professor starting in Fall 2024. The Assistant Adjunct Professor will teach two to three courses per quarter in person at the Bellevue College campus in collaboration with the Program Chair. Courses meet twice per week for either 50 minutes, or twice per week for 1 hour and 50 minutes. In-person courses can be scheduled between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and are taught in a hybrid format (e.g. Monday/Wednesday from 10:30 - 11:20 a.m., Monday/Wednesday 12:30 - 2:20 p.m.).

 

Depending on qualifications and student enrollment, the instructor may have the option to teach either three in-person courses, or a combination of two in-person courses and one online course. These are temporary faculty positions, typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

 

Anticipated quarterly teaching responsibilities will include one/two courses of CJ& 101: Introduction to Criminal Justice, and one of the following:

 

• CJ& 105: Corrections

 

• CJ& 106: Juvenile Justice

 

• CJ& 110: Criminal Law

 

• CJ& 112: Criminology

 

Other responsibilities include participation in assessing student learning outcomes; developing, revising, and implementing curriculum; maintaining current knowledge and skills in the area of assignment and demonstrating a strong commitment to student success and fostering a positive, caring learning environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

 

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,716.52 - $6,968.62. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement. Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
