TerraPower MCRE Operations Engineer in Bellevue, Washington

TITLE: MCRE Operations Engineer LOCATION: Bellevue, WA, USA (allows remote) TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. At its core, the company is working to raise living standards globally through a more affordable, secure and environmentally friendly form of nuclear energy along with innovations in medical isotopes to improve human health. In 2006, TerraPower originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. They recognized energy access was crucial to the health and economic well-being of communities and decided that the private sector needed to take action and create energy sources that would advance global energy deployment. TerraPower's mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. As a result, the company's activities in the fields of nuclear energy and related sciences are yielding significant innovations in the safety and economics of nuclear power, hybrid energy and medical applications - all for significant human health benefits. TerraPower is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes. MCRE Operations Engineer The Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) is slated to be the first liquid fueled fast spectrum reactor built and operated. The mission of the MCRE is to measure key reactor physics phenomena, test hypotheses about Molten Chloride Fast Reactors (MCFR) behavior, provide foundational knowledge, and reduce uncertainties to support the development of a commercial MCFR Demonstration Reactor (MCFR-D). The MCRE is planned to be built at the Idaho National Laboratory and as such requires authorization from the Department of Energy (DOE) to operate. The Operations Engineer will support the Operations Lead and interact with the entire MCRE design and testing teams to mature the operating and control strategy of the MCRE. This exciting position will ultimately lead to participating in this first-of-a-kind reactor startup, and support daily operations, sub-critical and critical experiments. The Operations Engineer will work as part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists and will receive administrative and technical supervision from the Operations Lead. Responsibilities * Assist the Experimental Campaign Lead in the development or review of the Experimental Campaign instrumentation and hardware design, specifications, testing and calibration requirements. * Work conjointly with the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Operations department to identify INL Operators training needs, and support INL Operators training development. * Assist the Operations Lead in the review of the MCRE commissioning, operations, and test procedures. * Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to support the development of the MCRE operations narratives including the incorporation of the Separated Effect Tests (SETs), the Integrated Effect Test (IET) and the Mockup lessons-learned in the narratives. Such narratives will form the basis for the reactor operations procedures. * Support MCRE design reviews and resolution of cross-functional technical concerns as a Subject Matter Expert in commercial nuclear operations and maintenance. * Support the design of non-nuclear Mockup and MCRE Operator interfaces, including the design of the MCRE control room, HMI screens and components, and plant monitoring requirements. * Support the Systems Leads and Instrumentation and Control (IC) Lead in the development of the MCRE systems and plant integrated controls logic. * Assist the Operations
