Amazon Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, Digital Acceleration in Bellevue, Washington

Our team builds personalized experiences and services that help Amazon customers discover and use Amazon's digital products and services such as Kindle, Amazon Music, Prime Video, and many more. We are a new team with ambitious vision and a lot of opportunities and autonomy to grow and build exciting, ML-powered products and services.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, you will work closely with a group of Applied Scientists and Engineers to prototype new experiences and personalization approaches. You will launch online experiments (A/B tests) to collect data and understand how the new experiences perform in real world. You will also scale the experiences and the underlying machine learning models to Amazon’s massive scale with high throughput and sub-second latency. Finally, since we work in an area of constant and rapid innovation, you will also research new technology and frameworks used across Amazon and within the industry and help adopt them to our team’s mission.

A day in the life

  • Design, develop and maintain core system features, services and engines.

  • Help define product features, drive system architecture, and spearhead best practices that enable a quality product.

  • Work with scientists and other engineers to investigate design approaches, prototype new solutions, and evaluate technical feasibility.

  • Develop ML workflows and end-to-end pipelines for data preparation, training, deployment, monitoring, etc., and ensure the quality of architecture and design of our ML systems and data infrastructure.

About the team

The Digital Acceleration (DA) organization builds and owns foundational technologies and experience for Amazon's digital businesses and customers. You will be joining a team within DA that is focused on building ML-powered applications and experiences to help Amazon customers discover and engage with Amazon’s digital products and subscriptions. Our services will be used by all Digital teams - Kindle, Amazon Video, Amazon Music, Appstore and more. Your work will be highly visible to Amazon customers and stakeholders across Digital teams.

Bellevue, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Master's degree in machine learning or equivalent

  • Extensive understanding of ML lifecycle. i.e., trained, customized, tuned and validated ML models that are leveraged in a science applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
