Boehringer Ingelheim Principal Scientist Research Data Management in Biberach, Germany

The Position

Unleash your potential with Boehringer Ingelheim as a Principal Scientist in Research Data Management. Embedded in Boehringer Ingelheim’s growing Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences Unit (gCBDS), you are actively contributing to the discovery of breakthrough therapies that will increase human health.

This role offers you the unique opportunity to contribute to maximizing the value of Boehringer Ingelheim’s key R&D data assets. You will play a pivotal role in accelerating future drug discovery projects through enhancing access to data and enabling innovative re-use of data for novel scientific insights, and you will take ownership for a core element of our R&D data infrastructure.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across all functions in Discovery Research to identify strategic needs and priorities for capturing, accessing and reusing data in drug discovery projects, with an initial focus on small molecule research.

  • You will take over responsibility for developing a roadmap to enable a new generation of innovations on top of research data from Boehringer’s drug discovery projects. Furthermore, you will oversee a successful implementation in collaboration with partners in IT and domain experts.

  • Through your interactions with both a large community of daily users across multiple functions and with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall R&D strategic goals, your role will be instrumental to enabling accelerated insights for our R&D pipeline.

  • In this role, you will also take over ownership of Boehringer Ingelheim’s compound data base as core element of our R&D data infrastructure.

  • In addition to the above, you will drive data quality standards and frames for implementation in alignment with data generating functions, thereby enhancing value and availability of data for future reuse.

Requirements

  • PhD in chemistry, physics, bioengineering, computer sciences or a related field

  • Strong technical expertise with hands-on experience in either small or large software development and/or database management; experience in cheminformatics or a related field is a plus

  • Multiple years of experience in pharma R&D, and experience in driving collaborations at the intersection of R&D and technology

  • Excellent communication and moderation skills in English, written and spoken
