M&T Bank Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management – Program Management in Buffalo, New York

This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work from home two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration.

Overview:

This is an exciting time to join Enterprise Data and Analytics! The Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will play a key and highly visible role in EDA’s strategy execution! Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions as well as strategic initiatives within the Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) division within M&T Bank and will report into the Chief of Staff, Strategic Initiatives, and Operations. Data Transformation is a key strategic initiative for M&T and the Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will play a vital role in taking workstreams from ideation through to full operationalization. This is a critical function to ensure that the department vision and business plan are aligned and executed smoothly with constant optimization and iteration being made. The Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will be a dynamic critical thinker, who is a self-starter and someone eager to partner with the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and senior leadership team on a number of key accountabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or manage and support EDA program management efforts, including progress against milestones, and monitoring financials and resources. May be responsible on an individual basis for directing complex, critical, and highly visible projects for the division.

  • Partner with senior managers within EDA, Technology, Finance, HR, Procurement, and across the Bank to manage key initiatives to manage EDA strategy execution as set forth by the CDO.

  • Measure financial progress and support senior leadership with business case development support and monitoring.

  • Build data acumen and look beyond the pure basics of managing numbers towards partnering on enterprise data strategy implementation.

  • Oversee Financials and Workforce Planning, including headcount & open headcount management. Liaison with Finance and HR accordingly

  • Manage relationships and vendor engagement to include bringing consistency and discipline to our engagement across the consultant space

  • Facilitate oversight of all regulatory and audit findings to ensure the department is clear on its accountabilities and managing against deadlines.

  • Provide analytical expertise to support initiatives that may include planning, design and analysis of results, presenting content at various governance functions, development of comprehensive content and materials, analysis of complex data sets, or analysis/optimization of data structures.

  • Partner with EDA leaders in formulating and optimizing the communication strategy for EDA.

  • Consider stakeholder perspectives, address objections, help develop solutions, and drive action. Interact with senior management (internal/external) to obtain pertinent information.

  • Employ strong data management and attention to detail. The Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will be someone trustworthy, ethical and reliable.

  • Proactive. The Strategic Initiatives Lead – Program Management will be someone that reaches out to collaborative partners to build strategy and process based on what the department needs. This is not someone that waits to be given options but rather someone that will identify multiple paths, and comes back with a recommended approach and reason for strategy. This person should have the vision to understand what’s needed in the future and build processes before reactiveness is needed

  • Strong emotional intelligence – able to speak to different levels of the organization and different types of personalities effectively. This includes influencing others and effectively building consensus where needed

  • Building and executing employee engagement strategy to establish strong department culture and cohesion, including additional ways to understand our employees needs and wants to drive engagement and work productivity and efficiency

  • Directly or indirectly manage staff.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Ability to capture data strategy and execution within compelling PowerPoint presentations, and present to senior management and executives as needed

  • Candidate must have strong analytic, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, leadership and project management skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance, Economics, Math, Accounting, Engineering, or Business Administration; Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree

  • Six Sigma, Lean or Process Improvement, or project management-related education

  • Minimum of 6 years’ relevant work experience

  • Agile methodology experience

  • Banking/financial industry experience

  • Experience with SQL, programming and statistical software

  • Experience with financial, regulatory and/or process analysis, and technical writing

  • Curious and innovative

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Supervisory responsibilities may come with time. For the immediate future, this will be an individual contributor.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $85,104.04 - $141,840.07 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
