Overview USU Extension, Iron County has a position available immediately or as soon as a suitable candidate is found. The 4-H and Youth Programs Coordinator I is a full time, 40 hours per week position, eligible for full benefits. The primary role of the 4-H Program Coordinator is to support the Extension Youth Program effort in three areas: volunteer recruitment and training, youth participant recruitment/retention and seeking donations (financial and in kind) to grow and expand the local program.

This position will work closely with teen and adult volunteers/mentors, provide volunteer training, and oversight, and build the overall capacity to meet community needs as well as statewide priorities. USU Extension Youth Programs focus on the areas of: STEM/STEAM, Agriculture/Natural Resources, Healthy Living, Civic Engagement and Communicative/Expressive Arts. The position also includes supervisory roles over two part-time 4-H staff.

Responsibilities Provide leadership to implement county-wide activities involving all 4-H members, teens and adult volunteers:

  • Advance the 4-H program in the county by recruiting and training youth and volunteers to organize and join 4-H Clubs.
  • Provide support and guidance to existing and new volunteers and 4-H clubs.
  • Promote Regional and State 4-H programs.
  • Including marketing, registering, and supporting volunteers in facilitating opportunities.
  • Coordinate the 4-H Youth and Volunteer Awards and Recognition efforts for the county.
  • Support a variety of Extension outreach activities that may include school enrichment activities such as Farm Field Days, Embryology, Water Fair, educator trainings, teen leadership programs, day camps etc.
  • Respond to requests, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence promptly and professionally.
  • Organize and support the 4-H Teen Council.
  • Seek external donations to support/expand the USU Extension Youth Programs in Iron County.
  • Be an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team, which includes participating in meetings, serving on working groups, and assisting at regional and state events.
  • Work in partnership with and serve as team leader for part-time 4-H employees complete social media, marketing and programmatic duties.
  • Submit regular reports to USU Extension- Utah State 4-H and Extension supervisors.
  • Participate in/contribute to staff meetings.
  • Accountable to County Director, State 4-H staff and will work closely with other Extension faculty/educators to fulfill youth-related work responsibilities.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Development, Agriculture, Youth Development or other related field; OR four years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
