This position will provide total advising services for the College of Arts & Media (CAM) and will work with a team of advisors, faculty, and administrators to assist students through a holistic academic journey.

The College of Arts & Media has an opening for two UniversityStaff Advisor / Senior Advisor (unclassified) positions. The incumbent will be accountable for advising and assisting College of Arts & Media students in all aspects of their advising journey. The continuance of this appointment will be based on needs, merit/performance, and budget.

Advisor (Open-Rank)

What you will do:

General Advising Duties

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for academic questions or concerns

  • Advise students in a holistic manner, which may include academic, career, international, or generic information

  • Monitor degree progress ensuring accurate course completion and sequence, host advising appointments through various platforms, reply to emails, visits, and phone calls from students in a timely fashion, maintain assigned advising load

  • Create, update, and maintain advising documents using a high-level of attention to detail

  • Perform degree audits and create degree audit transfer credit (DATC) forms

  • Conduct orientation presentations and sessions for newly admitted students

  • Utilize systems such as Civitas, Degree Audit, CU SIS, etc. to ensure the success of our students; maintain appropriate files; and provide input to update electronic file system, advising processes, degree plans and degree maps, etc

  • Assist students in maintaining good academic standing, informing them of relevant policies, procedures, and campus resources

  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance with disability and veteran services, academic and personal issues, and other college-related concerns

  • Remain up-to-date and serve as liaison, pertaining to and regarding curricular mapping between incoming courses from international partner institutions and CAM courses

  • Advise and assist College of Arts & Media students in all aspects of their advising journey

Retention

  • Using student information systems, monitor and track student retention and other success benchmarks as needed and assigned

  • Assist with events and other learning opportunities that assist students in reaching their academic and career goals

  • Work in partnership with CAM faculty and staff in developing academic success and advising resources including, but not limited to, online and print resources.

  • Participate in retention activities both inside and outside of CAM

  • Develop and attend select retention events; plan special events to build community among enrolled students

Other Duties

  • Attend and work Commencement, and other student facing events

  • Participate in and contribute to all aspects of student advising (academics, career, international programs, etc.)

  • Participate in Professional Development opportunities to ensure continuing growth

  • Along with the advising team, may assist in training incoming advisors and peer advisors regarding the policies and procedures of the unit

  • Represent the College of Arts & Media in various campus meetings, as needed

  • Other duties as may be assigned

  • Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

  • 1 year of experience working directly with students in advising in a higher education environment

Senior

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

  • 2 years of experience or more working directly with students in advising in a higher education environment

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

  • First-generation or experience with first-generation students

  • Demonstrated success and experience working with a CRM, Student Information System, CU SIS, Degree Audit System, and/or Civitas

Senior

  • 4 years of experience or more working directly with students in advising in a higher education environment

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

  • First-generation or experience with first-generation students

  • Contributing to and/or creating initiatives to assist academically at-risk students

  • Experience working with undergraduate student population

  • Knowledge of College of Arts & Media programs and/or background in the creative industries

  • Demonstrated success and experience working with a CRM, Student Information System, CU SIS, Degree Audit System, and/or Civitas

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse population at all levels throughout the institution-and into the community

  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner, across various modalities

  • Attention to detail, especially in written materials, across multiple platforms, to synthesize advising data

  • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks in parallel to maintaining attention to detail

  • Ability to create equitable and positive experiences for all

  • Outwardly contribute to a respectful, positive, and professional workspace

  • Demonstrated allegiance and influential ability to embrace and advance equity and inclusion

  • Ability to establish work priorities, follow through, and meet established deadlines

  • Strong judgment and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to deliberately listen and communicate relevant information, anticipate problems, and offer suggestions for resolution

  • Allegiance to maintain strict discretion while working with private information

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including, Word, Excel, and Outlook

Conditions of Employment

Must be willing and able to:

  • successfully pass a national criminal and sex offender background check

  • work and be present at on-and-off campus events on nights and weekends maintain a regular on-campus presence

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: Intermediate Professional, $52,140 - $57,000 & Senior Professional, $61,306 - $67,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
