The VP of Studio Pipeline & Platform is the leader within the Animation Technology team that is responsible for delivering and operating the infrastructure and core components of our feature animation pipeline. The scope of this role includes DCC integration/USD architecture, front end interfaces, microservice based data layers and underlying CI/CD deployment platforms and databases. This role will directly interact with other technology and production leaders within DreamWorks, external partners such as software manufacturers and cloud providers, and leaders across the larger NBCU Company. The successful candidate is someone that has a broad understanding of Animation and VFX pipelines, can prioritize for their teams based on overall business strategies and goals, and has a proven track record of delivering solutions on time and budget. This position will be based at the DreamWorks production facility in Glendale, California and report to the CTO of DreamWorks Animation.

“What would you say you do here?”

  • Initiate and provide high-level leadership for project-based initiatives with a focus on return on investment for the studio.

  • Leading an engineering organization through establishing clear goals and responsibilities, providing coaching and feedback, and engaging in change management strategies.

  • Balance efforts of future facing initiatives with on-going support of our legacy platform, establishing projects to deal with technical debt.

  • Collaborate with other technology and production leaders to deliver comprehensive solutions to the studio.

  • Serve as an escalation point for development and operational issues related to the platform, driving to resolution with technical leadership.

  • Build out robust talent development and acquisition strategies in conjunction with HR and TA partners, to include a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Work closely with finance to maintain budgets related to staffing and purchasing.

  • Negotiate salary increases and promotions, and communicate bonus/contract deal points.

  • Work with contracting partners to extend the capabilities of our full time engineering teams.

  • Maintain relationships with other NBCUniversal technology groups, identifying areas of alignment.

“What do I need to have in order to do this job?”

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in technology, operations, or software related field.

  • Good understanding of Microservices, CI/CD automation and surrounding technologies (such as containers; especially Kubernetes and Docker).

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate people, instill accountability, and optimize the team's resources to attain the business goals.

  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Strong written and presentation skills, including executive communications.

  • Strategic problem solver who can lead through influence and clearly communicate the thought process behind decisions.

  • Must be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols.

“What can I offer?”

  • Experience working within the Azure environment is a plus.

  • Proficient with modern cloud-native technology solutions and their pros/cons.

  • Deep understanding of Animation Pipelines and technologies.

  • Experience with DevOps/SRE practices, focused on reliability, time to deployment, and defining metrics.

     

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary range: $230,000 - $300,000
