Distribution Association II – Dept. # 3728

Job Summary:

Loads and unloads materials and goods from incoming and outgoing trucks.

Job Duties:

  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify dames and shortages.

  • Routes items to departments.

  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

  • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

  • Unload, inspect and sort freight by lot numbers.

  • Separates quarantine items from remaining stock.

  • Fills requisitions.

  • Verifies and signs for incoming material receipts.

  • Operate company truck for deliveries within 5-mile radius of main plant.

  • Knowledge of packing materials and requirements, as well as an understanding of shipping documents.

  • Transport packaging of orders of various sizes, weights and quantities and segregation for pickup.

  • Assist in loading trucks while verifying the shipment is completed in accordance with the Bill of Laden and methods of shipping, including piece count.

  • Verify product received from production/warehouse is consistent with the accompanying paperwork with regards to item number, lot number, quantity, etc.

  • Able to run machinery in shipping and the warehouse inclusive of powered industrial trucks, stretch wrap machine, floor scale and dunnage machine.

  • Ability to prioritize work schedule based on the daily/hourly requirements.

  • Maintains a clean, neat and safe workplace.

  • Flexible hours based on department needs.

  • Pack products in appropriate containers for safe transit to both domestic and international customers. Ensure packing requirements of consignee are met inclusive of governmental regulations.

  • Figure gross, net and tare weights as well as cubic feet.

  • Label containers in compliance with customer requirements and governmental regulations.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply shipping regulations from DOT, IATA, and IOMA concerning packages containing hazardous materials. Must be proficient at packing, labeling/marking, as well as document requirements.

  • Must have ability to process shipments for UPS and Federal Express via the online systems.

  • Ability to place orders for or advise Supervisor of the need for shipping materials maintained by the Shipping department.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the services, restrictions and requirements of the transportation companies used by Caulk.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the flow of paperwork and materials per the record retention guidelines as well as interaction with Customer Service, Planning and Production.

  • Manage the creation and distribution of shipping documents as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalent Diploma (GED)

Years and Type of Experience:

  • At least 1 year warehouse/distribution work experience. Fork- Lift highly certification preferred.

Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:

  • Ability to convert between the Metric System and U.S. Customary System.

  • Must be able to read and follow typed and handwritten instructions.

  • Must be able to use moving equipment such as hand truck, hydraulic jack, power jack, forklift, etc.

  • Must have valid driver’s license for transporting materials and supplies by truck between West Milford, Shipping and the Warehouses, when needed.

  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately count.

  • Legible handwriting.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and metric measurements.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office products preferred.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, metric measurement and decimals.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Must be able to use AX.

  • Must be capable of using online systems for UPS and Federal Express.

  • Must have knowledge of AX requirements for shipping.

  • Must have knowledge of all regulations as they pertain to the transportation of Hazardous Materials.
