About the Role

As the Director of Business Intelligence for Yahoo Sports, you will be at the forefront of sports analytics, driving strategic insights that shape the future of our products. You will partner closely with the Yahoo Sports leadership team to deliver data-driven intelligence that informs business decisions and enhances user experiences.

Please note: Candidates MUST possess a solid background in the sports industry, including work experience with sports properties, leagues, teams, sports betting or similar. The candidate also needs to possess a profound enthusiasm for sports, with a comprehensive understanding of the industry's intricacies, such as broadcast rights for major events and the dynamics of fan engagement and its monetization.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic business partner to the Yahoo Sports leadership team, proactively delivering business and audience insights.
  • Be on the edge of industry and market trends on sports products including product, content, and consumer trends.
  • Serve as a hands-on manager by leading and mentoring a small team of analysts, fostering their growth into industry experts.
  • Translate business challenges into analytical questions and define data requirements to address them.
  • Execute targeted analyses to understand user experiences and behaviors, and deliver meaningful insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Craft compelling data stories for executives and stakeholders through presentations, written summaries, and visualizations.
  • Utilize third-party data sources like Comscore, SimilarWeb, and Data AI to deliver market trends and insights.
  • Deliver the insights and reporting to the media & content, operations & strategy, and product teams with the insight they need to optimize their business areas.
  • Contribute to strategic projects through innovation to execution to analytical overviews, across Yahoo Sports.
  • Perform targeted and comprehensive analyses to uncover insights into user behavior and web/app activity.


You Must Have
  • Experience working in Sports media, sports industry or digital sports properties is a MUST. No exceptions.
  • Past experience generating actionable insights for sports property product teams, digital sports organizations, fantasy sports products and/or sports media
  • Strong understanding of sports media, the marketplace and core products - deep understanding of digital sports media, fantasy sports and/or sport betting space along with prior experience in those domains
  • Passion for Sports and facilitating cool products as well as experience working in Sports media or digital sports properties
  • 7 years of relevant experience with expertise around analytics, research, and insights delivery. 3 years of experience leading teams.
  • Significant experience, proficiency in, and passion for mobile and web products.
  • Bachelor's degree required, masters degree preferred.
  • Expertise in SQL required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment juggling multiple projects often under tight and concurrent deadlines and stakeholder needs immediate.
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering actionable insights on digital products and content.
  • Innovative and creative with a self-starter mentality and eagerness to take on new tasks.
  • Strong aptitude and keen enthusiasm for tackling complex analytical challenges, including proficiency in navigating and extracting insights from expansive cloud-based data platforms like Google BigQuery.
  • Expertise in utilizing digital analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics, as well as in applying visualization tools like Looker or Tableau to effectively interpret and present data.
  • Skilled in leveraging third-party analytics resources, including Comscore, SimilarWeb, and Data AI, to enrich their analysis and provide comprehensive market insights.
  • Strong analytical skills and quantitative mindset, complemented by a foundational understanding of statistics.
  • Experience in leveraging multiple types of data (i.e. audience traffic data, revenue data & survey insights) to provide actionable business insights.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to craft and present data driven analyses and insights to articulate performance and opportunities to key stakeholders.
  • Team player in driving growth results combined with a positive attitude and high emotional intelligence.
  • Strong work ethic and core values (honesty, integrity, creativity, etc).

The compensation for this position ranges from $140, 890.00 - $306, 705.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
