The Opportunity
The position of Forensic Scientist I, Data Review is within our Toxicology Division located at Richmond, VA at Alere Toxicology Services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for providing initial review of confirmatory results obtained by chromatographic methods. The individual filling this position will be responsible for analysis, review and interpretation of the analytical data in accordance with standard operating procedures and all applicable accrediting bodies. This individual will be responsible for reviewing and ensuring work is performed in accordance with all accrediting bodies such as CAP, CLIA, New York State, etc. and laboratory standard operating guidelines.
What You’ll Work On
Initial review of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS and GC-FID headspace data including, but not limited to, calibration, control performance, chain of custody, and donor results
Operation of Sciex LC-MS/MS and Agilent GC-MS instrumentation
Use of Sciex Analyst, and MultiQuant software
Use of Agilent ChemStation software
Loading of samples and controls to confirmatory instruments
Disposal of samples and controls
Training of new personnel, as needed
Knowledge of drug metabolism
Domestic travel may be required when subpoenaed to testify in legal proceedings
Adherence to all security and safety procedures and all established guidelines outlined in employee handbook
Compliance with all established SOPs, regulatory guidelines and company policies
Assist in other departments, as needed
Assist with other tasks, as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or other relevant field
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a high-complexity, fast paced laboratory is preferred
Ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
Ability to understand laboratory instrumentation including mass spectrometry
Ability to understand certification requirements for CAP-FUDT, CLIA and other relevant regulatory bodies
Ability to understand the function of a LIS (Laboratory Information System) and other laboratory computer systems
Ability to read and comprehend applicable company Standard Operating Procedures and accreditation guidelines
Excellent math and reasoning ability to develop and communicate laboratory procedures and reports
Ability to communicate with other employees
Ability to transcribe data in a legible handwriting
Ability to provide input and recommendations on operations

The base pay for this position is $19.60 – $39.20 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
