Google Developer Relations Engineer III, Android for ChromeOS in San Jose, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of work experience in a technical role (e.g., software engineering, solutions consultant, etc.) or equivalent technical experience.

  • 3 years of experience in Android development.

  • 3 years of experience writing code in Kotlin or Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience creating compelling overviews, product requirements documents/specifications, and executive-level decks.

  • Experience working with developers, Product/Engineering teams, with the ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Ability to take initiative, and be innovative and experimental.

  • Excellent planning, structuring, and organizing skills.

  • Excellent problem solving, and verbal and written communication skills.

Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Programs Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. Not afraid to be hands-on, you write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5 as well as our core Google Apps and Ads APIs are just some of the platforms you promote and support.

With your technical expertise, you drive strategy around fostering a community of developers who work with Google technologies. An ardent advocate for these developers, you represent their voice internally to our Product Managers and serve as their Google support in application development and technology implementation.

The ChromeOS Developer Relations team is building a developer ecosystem with app developers on ChromeOS. We enable Android, Web, and game developers to build, and optimize their apps on ChromeOS.

As a Developer Relations Engineer, you will raise awareness and grow adoption of ChromeOS within Google’s developer communities through events, developer engagement, social media, developer samples, and documentation. You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Business Development, and Developer Marketing teams to advocate for our developers, bringing their feedback to influence the future of ChromeOS and improve the quality of app platforms.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Advocate for developers internally and build narratives around new releases and features by working with Product Management, Engineering, Business Development, and Developer Marketing cross-functional teams.

  • Develop outreach materials (i.e., code samples, blog posts, docs, videos, presentations, and internal communications).

  • Meet developers inside and outside Google to gain insights on current issues, trends, and opportunities. Expand feedback through events, developer interviews, communities, videos, research, and market intelligence.

  • Participate in technical and design discussions with teams across ChromeOS, Chrome, Android, and Play to advocate for developer needs.

  • Build and foster an external community ecosystem of developers, influencers, and experts that amplify our messages and extend our reach. Advocate for technical best practices that improve quality, compatibility, security, and privacy across apps and software development kits (SDKs).
