eBay Senior Manager, Employee Communications in San Jose, California

About the team:

We are responsible for managing, protecting and strengthening the company’s brand and reputation among key stakeholders. We play a critical role in eBay’s brand strategy, positioning the company as a global leader in the commerce revolution. One of our primary areas of focus has been to drive consumer brand consideration of eBay, activate a differentiated eBay brand, and bring the company’s Purpose to life. We are comprised of more than 100 people, globally, activating a modern, robust, and dynamic communications system that deploys cutting-edge tools, technologies and techniques to drive business impact. We are propelling eBay’s Purpose by elevating its Global Impact, highlighting how eBay creates a better, more sustainable form of commerce—where people are empowered, causes are supported and opportunities are open to everyone.

This communications business partner role is dedicated to driving compelling employee communications, engagement programming and cultural change at one of the world’s iconic brands. Partnering directly senior executives and People business partners, the person in this role will work to develop and deliver employee communications strategies for corporate programs and individual organizations.

The role requires a communicator who is committed to high quality and innovation. They love the challenge of capturing a leader’s voice, creative storytelling and working in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working on a broad range of communications, writing and project management with excellent people skills. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role where you will be both conceiving the strategy and delivering most of that strategy’s tactical elements. Equally, you’ll need partner effectively with key internal partners and external vendors to drive active understanding and engagement with our brand, our business goals and priorities, and eBay’s unique 24-year history as a pioneer of the internet as well as our special purpose and culture.

This position will be based at our global headquarters in San Jose, California.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the employee communications strategy for multiple teams and programs in support of business strategy and priorities.

  • Drive employee business strategy understanding, inspiration and connection to leaders, our purpose and values with executive communications, programs and events.

  • Create compelling presentations for executives managing content from ideation to stage.

  • Provide communications expertise, counsel and support designated leaders and partners.

  • Facilitate interactive and two-way communications; build on established cadences and channels.

  • Work closely with Global Employee Communications teammates to ensure alignment with global priorities and plans; learn what’s working elsewhere and apply where it makes sense.

Skills & Competencies:

  • 10+ years of communications experience in roles that have driven understanding and positive employee perception of companies, products and services.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with a special ability to cut through with a succinct, modern communication style.

  • Master user of PowerPoint & Keynote able to make quick changes on the fly.

  • Strong digital and social storytelling and engagement experience.

  • Change management experience including complex organizational and cultural change.

  • Strong general and Internet business insight; culture and HR subject matter experience.

  • Practiced capacity to manage complex projects, navigating conflict and developing consensus.

  • Passionate brand advocate working to advance the company’s employee value proposition.

  • High comfort with production logistics and working with A/V vendor partners for live events.

  • Proven ability to work with partners at all levels.

  • Experience managing and participating in project teams in a matrixed environment without direct reports.

  • Active user of eBay products.

  • Empathy, good emotional intelligence as well as cultural sensitivity

  • Respectful, with the antennae to pick up on, and manage, organizational and cultural sensitivities and change

  • Good sense of humor and ability to see work as fun

Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate will have 10+ years of employee communications and/or executive/leadership communications experience with senior leaders – preferably in a global organization within the retail, internet or technology sectors. Bachelor’s degree required.
