Your Career

We are looking for an experienced public relations leader to uphold our stellar reputation worldwide in the cybersecurity market as the evolving cyberthreat landscape and geopolitical climate continue to become more complex. This means providing strategic counsel and support on emerging crisis situations and globally relevant security incidents, expanding our crisis preparedness initiatives and cultivating creative brand reputation goodwill-building activities. Join our amazing Corporate Communications team as Senior Manager, Crisis Communications and Reputation Management.

The right candidate will demonstrate both trust and integrity, a positive attitude; works well under pressure; and is an independent worker who possesses high levels of partnership with internal stakeholders. This will be coupled with an understanding of and enthusiasm for the unique nuances of our brand and approach to shifting the way executives around the globe think about security. The ideal candidate will have a clear view of how communications is evolving and how the role of narrative building and the right messaging can make the difference between being a leader and a follower. Being prepared to roll up sleeves and dive in at all is mission critical to this function, because sometimes keeping us out of the news is more important than seeing us in it.

You are keenly aware of the critical cybersecurity moment the world is in right now. And, as cybersecurity impacts a broad range of audiences - from business to government, consumer to investor - you thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, you’re as comfortable working cross-functionally to develop proactive plans, reactive statements and FAQs, and can engage with media to provide context and clarity on any situation.

The Senior Manager, Crisis Communications and Reputation Management reports to the VP, Corporate Communications and will be responsible for leading the development of crisis communications. This is a full time position, ideally based in our Santa Clara, California HQ but could be remote for the right candidate.

Your Impact

  • The position will be responsible for developing proactive reputation management campaign strategies to elevate brand awareness and reputation as well as diffusing negative news and/or category situations, developing reactive media statements and mitigating risk through development and execution of a proactive crisis playbook

  • Work in close partnership with Global Crisis Triage and InfoSec teams, as well as other functions responsible for crisis response plans in the company - The objective is to deliver world class crisis communications preparedness and execution in an integrated operating company, while striving for agility and continuous improvement

  • The role will lead crisis response efforts for internal and external audiences including managing and coordinating recommendations and messaging with our crisis communications agency

  • The position will actively participate and support the management team to ensure the quality of communications with internal and external stakeholders

  • Create common templates, toolkits and channels to advance streamlined ways of working - The objective is to deliver globally consistent, locally relevant tools for internal crisis response training and for externally interacting with the press

  • Create and execute integrated rapid response communications plans (Paid, earned, owned social), media statements, FAQs and external facing materials (e.g. newsroom posts) across a number of issue areas

  • Running internal approval process for response materials

  • Supporting development of communications materials to keep Palo Alto Networks customers and partners informed of issues

  • Triaging daily inbound inquiries to the Global Media Relations team and working with SMEs across the business to develop response

  • Collaborate with, and provide guidance to regional PR teams

  • Ensures consistency with communications standards, policies and processes for media relations across a global, integrated operating company

  • Educates and ensures a professional mindset of communications leaders and employees throughout the organization

  • Applies an advanced understanding of crisis communications and reputation management leading practices and external benchmarks to the development and ongoing strategic direction for the Corporate Communications team

Your Experience

  • 8+ years of deep communications experience with media relations, internal communications and crisis communications in a global, matrixed organization

  • Experience working with counsel to support communications related to corporate litigation

  • Proven experience counseling senior-level executives and activating communications strategy with c-suite executives

  • Natural storyteller with excellent speaking, writing and editing skills; can easily simplify messages

  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and written communication skills

  • Experience developing effective crisis communications tools

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills - ability to manage several projects at once

  • Strong understanding of the media environment, with a proven track record building media relationships and shaping stories that drive conversations

  • Experience in media monitoring, analysis and reporting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Writing samples of recent press releases, crisis statements and writing test evaluation are required in this application process

  • A respected manager, with experience building (and inspiring!) teams, along with the ability to build senior relationships with executives

  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure to oversee timely, first-rate execution

  • A team player and creative thinker, with experience working with international teams

  • Thrives in fast-paced environments - Able to work independently with minimal direction - Is flexible, collaborative and deadline driven

  • Is open, honest and direct but tactful and respectful in communications style and approach

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/com-missioned roles) is expected to be between $148,600/yr to $240,450/yr.
