LABORER - WATER DIVISION (Age 17 with Driving Responsibilities)

Seasonal - Variable Hours


Tooele City's Water Division is hiring for seasonal laborers to performs a variety of entry-level, non-safety sensitive duties. An example of duties include:

  • Refuels vehicle and small equipment.
  • Operates a variety of hand tools and small power equipment such shovels, rakes, hand-held blowers, hoses, push lawn mowers, and weed eaters. Backfill holes, trenches less than 3 feet deep, and other holes using shovels, wheel barrows, and other hand-held tools.
  • Uses paint brushes and rollers to apply water-based paint to fire hydrants, buildings, curbs, and related grounds. Indoor painting is limited.
  • Performs cleaning duties using over-the-counter cleaning chemicals and supplies that are maintained in their originally purchased containers and require no mixing, industrial quantity, or special application instructions.
  • Assists water division operators with performance of non-safety-sensitive tasks such as getting tools, sweeping, cleaning, loading and unloading fittings, counting inventory, and taking notes or photos on job sites.
  • Cleans grounds and buildings, mows lawns with hand pushed mowers, pulls weeds, rakes, digs and removes debris using a shovel or other manually operated equipment, and perform basic painting using water-based paint solutions.

Must be at least 17 years old, have a valid Utah Driver License and driving record that is acceptable to Tooele City's risk management and insurability standards and have had the license for at least 12 months.

Work requires regular physical agility including, but not limited to, walking, climbing, kneeling, pulling, pushing, bending at the waist and knees, working in other prone position, have sight sufficient to perform all essential duties safety. Must also be able to regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of another employee, dolly, or other lifting device. Incumbent will be required to work in adverse weather conditions with regular exposure to the outdoor environment (i.e. pollen, grass, dust, traffic, etc.). Must be able to physically operate basic landscaping equipment including lawn mowers and weed eaters.
