GE Healthcare Engineering Manager - Bay & Test in Waukesha, Wisconsin

Job Description Summary

The Engineering Manager - Bay & Test is responsible for all activities associated with our most critical assets for development in the Magnetic Resonance (MR) Waukesha facility – our engineering bays – and the personnel that run them. They are also responsible for assets and personnel associated with our program verification and validation (V&V) processes. This most notably includes our V&V engineers and our test equipment labs and technician(s). This role will manage a group of technicians and engineers from multiple disciplines focused on maintaining development and test assets within the MR business. In addition to people leadership, the position will also allocate a percentage of time to support strategic efforts. These include, but are not limited to, facilities operations, material management, asset financial control, EHS engineering representation and bay, test and calibration process and roadmap development.

This position reports to the Sr Director of Program Management and Integration in the Waukesha Innovation Center. There is autonomy within the role, with high levels of operational judgment required to achieve business goals and outcomes.

The position requires technical engineering knowledge coupled with superior people leadership skills, proficiency in quality systems, functional and program management awareness and business planning expertise.

This position works closely with cross-disciplinary engineering and cross-functional business teams in the MR business.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of skilled engineering technicians from multiple disciplines dedicated to creating, maintaining, and expanding our engineering bays across all MR products, driving innovation and efficiency in engineering design and development for all teams.

  • Lead the design, implementation and maintenance planning for engineering bay and test unit infrastructure to ensure MR test sockets are viable and ready for prompt usage.

  • Develop and lead execution of short-, mid- and long-term bay planning. This includes prioritization of weekly technician work to meet business demands, as well as planning assets and product availability mix in a multi-year view.

  • Establish and improve processes associated with engineering test asset scheduling and real-time usage in the name of efficiency and compliance.

  • Ensure training and adherence of the engineering organization in Waukesha to established bay usage practices.

  • Lead the engineering test equipment calibration lab, along with its vital personnel and processes. Look for continuous improvement opportunities for engineering and financial efficiencies.

  • Own the engineering contractor agency relationship that provides a strong baseline of engineering exploratory and formal V&V test resources. Lead test prioritization, continuous improvement and efficiency evaluations.

  • Represent the Waukesha MR Engineering organization in facilities maintenance, planning and future development.

  • Lead advocacy for excellence in engineering EHS practices.

  • Foster collaboration between engineers, bay technicians, facilities personnel, leadership and cross-functional teams to drive great engineering design and development results.

  • Engage in and lead business planning processes, recruitment, retention, talent acquisition, development, and mentoring.

  • Create and maintain an organizational culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward goals, and continuous improvement.

  • Challenge team members to question the status quo and ensure that all aspects of the design, development and support processes are optimal for the industrial/commercial market.

  • Design and direct the work of the team. Select, coach and develop individuals. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manage performance, recognize achievement, provide feedback and administer progressive discipline when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in product design and development environment with at least 3 years of program or people leadership experience.

  • Deep functional expertise in relevant engineering discipline and problem solving.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate and deliver in a global team.

  • Understanding of cross-functional perspectives and ability to influence and deliver the right solutions.

  • Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives.
